On June 19, tenants’ rights organizations demonstrate and demand mandatory rent control as well as a stop to evictions. Indeed, rents are soaring and tenants are paying the costs. Real rent control is a measure that can begin to change the balance of power that has shifted more and more towards property owners in Québec. In addition, in this context of crisis with July 1st approaching, we know very well that many working class tenants will find themselves on the streets in the coming weeks, and that many of them are already there.
